



RYA Advanced Powerboat
This advanced course is for the more experienced power boater and is the required standard by many professional bodies such as the RNLI, Police and Military. During the course you will carry out more advanced manoeuvres such as lee shore handling, helicopter rescue procedures, berthing in adverse conditions and search and rescue patterns. You will also learn more about high speed and night time navigation and put this into practice on a night time passage.

Candidates should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat |
Course knowledge | Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Coastal/Yachtmaster shore based certificate and it is strongly recommended to hold a 1st aid certificate and a VHF operator’s licence |
Course content | Preparation for sea Boat handling (incl. rough water) Passage making, Pilotage Meteorology Rules of the road (IRPCS) Use of engines Emergency situations Undertaking searches Night cruising PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU INTEND TO USE THIS QUALIFICATION COMMERCIALLY YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE AN INDEPENDANT EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE CONDUCTED BY AN MCA/RYA EXAMINER. PLEASE ADVISE US IF THIS IS REQUIRED AS THIS CAN EASILY BE ARRANGED. |
Ability after course | To be able to drive a planing powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters with which the candidate may be familiar |
